It’s National Yoga Month, so this week will be yoga themed at Joy, Fitness, & Style. Here’s a 2 DVD pack worth adding to your yoga library. It’s slow and gentle enough for beginners or for those who need to de-stress from their busy lifestyles.
This DVD pack is broken up into three A.M. Yoga practices and three P.M. Yoga practices.
A.M. Yoga features Rodney Yee and P.M. Yoga features Colleen Saidman and Patricia Waldon. Why they put pictures of Colleen on the back of the A.M. cover…I do not know.
I LOVE the beach scene he is located at for this practice with the sounds of the ocean in the background. I think it helps to bring you into the practice. Each pose is slow and deliberate and his narration is amazing (as usual). The quality is really amazing as well (perfect picture & sound) – you’ll understand why I say this when you read A.M. Focus below.
Warning, this practice is actually from an older DVD – oops, I mean VHS tape – from probably 25+ years ago. They could have AT LEAST had him re-do the same practice to update the quality of the DVD. Not cool. Anyway, it is a great practice. It’s perfect for days that you know are going to be hectic. It starts with 5 minutes of relaxation, then slowly incorporates yoga postures to wake you up and get your ready for your day.
It’s current and I like that it’s only 5 minutes. I have a hard time with meditations, which just means I should do it more than I do.
Colleen Saidman is in a gorgeous meadow setting. Behind the calming music, you hear the sounds of the wind and the singing birds. It’s really peaceful. She takes you through a series of poses from seated, to lying, to standing, then back down again to loosen up tension. Colleen then prepares you for sleep with a variety of relaxation techniques. You will feel loose and relaxed. I love this practice.
Another warning, this second practice is old. Patricia Waldon is wearing this crazy 80’s leotard (because it was the 80’s) – I just can’t stand it. It’s distracting and way too crazy to add to a newer DVD. Should have been remade.
Back to Colleen in the meadow, this is another great beginner meditation that is only 5 minutes.
